December 3rd (and my 3rd post)
Awoke yesterday morning to that annoying beep that can only be my alarm clock. With my eyes barely open, I reached over to shut it off and peek at the time. 4:15 A.M. Wait, I don't get up that early and now Hubby is poking me in the ribs. Shut that thing off, he moans. I press the button, but nothing. The noise won't stop. Press the button again, still nothing. Now I'm sitting up in bed, pressing the off button continually, and the clock is still beeping. Oh, Oh, now Hubby is up too. Together we're trying to figure out why it won't shut off. Hubby pulls the plug...but still the beeping doesn't stop. Are we in a movie? Are we being punked? Now we're both wide awake and look at each other with what must have been a dumb, blank stare while still hearing the beeping. And then it dawns on us! The beeping wasn't my alarm clock at all. The neighbor's old, junky car parked across the street is having a horn malfunction!!!
What a wonderful way to start my birthday! We did fall back asleep for a few more hours though. It did bring a chuckle several times throughout the day and I'm sure it will be something we chuckle over for a long time.
My youngest daughter called me Friday night and said I shouldn't make dinner because she wanted to cook. That was a shock, but I never turn down a kid who wants to make dinner. She made cheesy chicken breasts, garlic mashed potatoes, fancy cut green beans with bacon and a colorful salad of lettuce, red, yellow and green peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and shredded carrots. Dessert was chocolate cheesecake that she bought on the way home. As we sat down to eat, she said since she was a college kid without much money, this was my birthday gift from her. It was so sweet! She could have made hotdogs and mac n cheese and it would have been just as special. The best gift was her spending time with me!
Until next time...

Second December Post
So here it is, my second December post. The past couple of days have been quite mild considering for the past several years our weather has been cold, windy, icy and snowy from right after Thanksgiving through February. Since Thanksgiving this year, we've had sun, milder temps, even into the 50's and our preciptation has been in the form of rain. We have had several inches of rain since Thanksgiving, but at least it's not snow -- yet.
My oldest sister says it's not right Christmas shopping in sunny, mild weather. Plus, she wants snow, and lots of it, because her hubby plows snow for his business.
I do have to admit, however, that snow in December up through New Year's Day does make it feel like the holiday season. Once January is under way, the snow can disappear as far as I'm concerned.
Now, you will find this very ironic... I am a person who dislikes snow most of the time, but I absolutely have a thing for snowmen! I have been collecting snowmen everything for quite a few years now and my collection continues to grow. I have snowmen decorations, snowmen dishes, snowmen towels, a snowmen rug, snowmen tree skirt, snowmen ornaments and the list goes on. But perhaps my favorite is my pink snowmen flannel sheets! I must admit, Hubby indulges my love for snowmen and the color pink together for only a few nights between Thanksgiving and New Year's, but snuggling into the sheets just brings a smile to my face. I guess a guy can only handle so much, lol.

A December Daily Challenge
My daughter is doing a couple of daily challenges in December. One is a daily drawing challenge and yet another one is a daily photo challenge. She found a website with what each day's challenge is. For example, one day was to draw yourself and I must admit her self portrait was pretty good. One of the photo challenges was to photograph a silhouette. We had been cutting paper snowflakes of all shapes and sizes so she taped several of them to the window and played with settings on her new camera to capture the snowflake silhouettes.
As an artist who hasn't picked up a drawing pencil or paintbrush in many years, my daughter challenged me to do the drawing challenge with her. Well that hasn't quite happened yet, even though my daughter offered to let me use her drawing tablet and pencils.
I'm challenging myself to post a daily entry to my blog for the whole month of December. I know, I'm already a few days late, but I plan to catch up! This post will count as my December 1st post, lol.
Until next time,
